Over the past several weeks, we have enjoyed gathering back for in-person services. We have seen new faces and we have seen old friends. It truly has been a time of refreshing and a time of intimate corporate worship. As you know, our church, like most churches, closed its doors during the period of national and state mandated quarantines. We offered online services and worshiped in the comfort and safety of our own homes.
As we have monitored the current COVID-19 pandemic in our area, we have seen a major increase in cases over the past several weeks. Unfortunately, we have seen many of these cases traced back to church gatherings. We are now seeing several, but not all, of our local sister churches re-evaluating their ability to safely provide in-person services and are returning to online only services for a period of time. Our local government has now issued a mandate for all people to wear masks while in public places. Though this ordinance is not a mandate for places of worship, it is strongly encouraged and should be followed as we, believers, seek to be a good witness by submitting to local authorities and the biblical call of loving our neighbor.
I say all this to inform you that we, at Meadowview, have been diligent to monitor this situation for the safety of our church body physically and more importantly the edification of our church spiritually. We are aware of an increased number of cases in our community and that some have been exposed to those exhibiting COVID-like symptoms.
With much discussion, we have decided not to postpone in-person services at this time. We believe that shutting down is not really the answer but that we should seek to increase our church guidelines and protocols for entering the building. Starting this Sunday, July 12, we will require masks to be worn inside our building. We encourage everyone to practice social distancing and to sit one family per pew, if possible. We will be re-taping every other pew so there will be limited space available in our sanctuary. We will monitor the attendance and decide if multiple services are needed in the future. We understand this is not ideal and is an inconvenience for many, therefore, we will once again be providing online services. Our livestream will be available on our website and our YouTube channel at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday. If there are any technical difficulties, which there might be during the livestream, a recorded version will be uploaded Sunday afternoon.
Again, if you have been sick or if you know of anyone in your family that has been in contact with someone who has been sick or exhibited any sicknesses or symptoms, we ask that you please stay at home and worship with us online.
Meadowview, we love you all and care deeply for your spiritual and physical wellbeing. We are doing everything we can to ensure a safe and welcoming worship environment. As Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” This is a season and we will praise Him through it, for He is good, and His love endures forever. AMEN
God bless you church. We love you and we hope to see you either in person or online this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
